Frances Edith Metcalf, 85, known to those close to her more as Francesca, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2019. Born on August 16, 1933, raised in Brockton and attended Brockton Public Schools. Frances was the adored daughter to the late Howard E. and Cynthia (Warren) Metcalf.
Frances is survived by her son Michael, her brother Philip Metcalf, his wife Joan, nephew Gregg, her nieces Samantha DaCosta and Christine O’Brien and a great niece and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Janet Eichorn a few months before.
Francesca was a Brockton girl from the time she was born and worked in a variety of positions in the area until she settled in at Carney Hospital; she handled the X-rays and medical records and retired there. She enjoyed her professional life and dressing up for the office. She was a clothes horse for sure.
Francesca was eclectic if she was not writing poetry she was doing Sudoku or gardening (her specialty day lilies of which she had over one hundred varieties), she was reading mysteries, listening to jazz, country or her favorite Jimmy Buffet. She played lots of card games at the Brockton Council on Aging, did hours of crafts many of them beautiful pieces of jewelry, she loved photography, painting, sketching and her rescue cats.
Her friends would describe her as funny, quick with a comeback and always ready to do something new. She treated her friends well and supported them emotionally through hard times. She will be missed by many from the Brockton Garden Club, to the neighborhood she called home for over six decades and to the many she friended in the community.
She leaves her son with memories of wonderful trips, Parrot Head themes on their answering machine and a real void for those that loved her dearly.
Visitation is respectfully omitted and burial will take place privately.
