Mrs. Phyllis H. (Dwyer) Westgate, of Taunton , passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, January 12th 2019. She was born 95 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Villia (Clapp) Dwyer. Phyllis was raised and educated in Taunton, having received a double promotion from the 3rd to the 5th grade and was a 1940 graduate from Taunton High School. Following her high school graduation, Phyllis was employed as a private secretary to the administrator of the former Morton Hospital.
Phyllis was a member of the former East Taunton Congregational Church and a member of the Couples Club Church. During her childhood years, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls. Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her loving family, especially when she had her family gatherings. Her most cherished times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Phyllis was an avid Red Sox fan and was very knowledgeable of all the players.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth E. Westgate. Cherished mother of Marsha L. Reid and her late husband Brian of Taunton and Kendra A. Motta and her husband Allan of East Taunton. She was also the mother of the late Susan N. Nieviera. Loving grandmother of Kenneth J Rinehart and his wife Maureen of Taunton, Brian K Wrigley and his wife Jessica of Attleboro, David Nieviera and his wife Katie of Marlboro and great grandmother of Brook and Alexa Rinehart of Taunton and Julia Wrigley of Attleboro. Sister of the late George Gordon Dwyer and the late David F. Dwyer. Phyllis also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton MA on Wednesday January 16th, 2019 from 5-8PM. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday January 17th, 2019 at 11AM. Burial will immediately follow in the King cemetery, East Taunton.
