Chabelli Souza Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the Souza family of Berkley announce Chabelli Alis Souza 31, fell asleep in death, peacefully and unexpectedly on May 11, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends in Boston.

Chabelli was 31 years old and born in Providence, Rhode Island. Though Chabelli endured many medical difficulties she always got through them with a smile that was infectious, she lived a life full of joy and adventure. Belli was the heart of our family — a light that lit up every room, every heart, and every life she touched.

Chabelli was creative, caring, and endlessly spunky. From a young age, she was known as a social butterfly — teachers, friends, and family all felt the warmth of her kindness and her joyful energy. Her smile could lift even the heaviest of hearts. She saw the good in everyone. Her compassion was unmatched, and she reminds us of the beauty of forgiveness and the power of hope.

Despite her medical challenges, Chabelli’s faith never wavered. She faced each hospitalization with strength, praying and calling loved ones especially during painful interventions. She was deeply connected to her god Jehovah; often reminding others that He was always her friend as well as theirs and the most important source of strength she had experienced repeatedly in her life.

Chabelli was also an enthusiastic fan of the Red Sox, The Voice, and the New England Patriots. She adored Spongebob Squarepants and Toy Story. If she found out you loved something, she’d make it her mission to stay up to date on it — just so she could talk to you about it. That was who she was: endlessly thoughtful, always connecting with others through joy.

In the months before her passing, Chabelli wrestled with fear and anxiety about death. But before she left us, she found peace. She began to dream of herself running in a race — victorious, strong, free. She passed with a sense of comfort, ready for the next chapter in Paradise on Earth.

Chabelli’s life taught us all about endurance, unconditional love, and faith. As her brother once said, “If I ever had a bad day, I looked at her and knew I could get through it — because if Belli could; I could.”

She is survived by her parents Anthony and Joyce Souza of Berkley. Her sisters Bonnie Souza, Kierra LePage, Vanessa Souza DiBona (husband Trey) and Holly Wood (husband Sean) and daughters Sydney and Abigail of Berkley. Brothers Mark Souza (wife Monica) and sons Austen and Evan of Dighton, Adonis Souza of Fall River. Two uncles, Ronnie and Jeffrey De Marco (wife Linda) of Berkley. Aunts Aura Moreira and Susan De Marco of Fall River, Pauline Thibault (husband Raymond) of Taunton, Kathleen Kmack of Berkley, Laurie Bence (Wife Devan) of West Warwick. Great grandmother, Olga Williams of New Bedford. Chabelli is also survived by her much loved “mommy” Hope Bence (Luis) of Providence, her brother Herman Lopez of Florida , her sister Alisha Lopez of Philadelphia and many cousins friends and caregivers.

Special thanks to her beloved nurse Marlene and mother “Nana,” Irene Melo of Fall River and to all her providers at Children’s Hospital, St. Anne’s, and especially Brigham and Women’s Neurology Department — whose dedication, skill, and compassion allowed Chabelli’s life to shine in ours for the past nearly seven years longer.
