Claire Lucille (Lemieux) Lopes

Claire Lucille Lopes, our mom, passed on Sunday, November 7, 2021. She raised five daughters, Jean Desrosiers (James) of Berkley, Diane Lopes (deceased), Janet Huard of Westport, Carol Riendeau (Paul) of Berkley and Grace Lopes (Matthew Combs) of Berkley. She had one granddaughter Jaime Desrosiers (Richard), four grandsons, David Desrosiers (Taisa), Robert Huard, Eric (Kelly) Huard and Kiel Huard (Katie) and three great grandchildren Dylan Desrosiers, Quinn Huard and Lucien Huard. 

Our mom was the third daughter of George and Blanche Lemiuex.  She grew up in Whittenton with her three siblings known as the “The Lemieux sisters”- Emelda Dorsey (deceased), Adrienne Lemieux and Elaine McSheffrey, all of whom she remained close.  On the Lemieux and Lopes side she had 15 nieces and nephews and 25 great nieces and nephews.  

She worked many jobs- usually two and sometimes three at a time. She worked at the Golden Pheasant in Berkley and numerous Taunton businesses including Reed and Barton, Pride Workshop, FB Rogers, Silver’s at the Holiday Inn, Penelope’s and of course, Princess House.  

She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Guild and a dedicated parishioner of St Jacques (now St Jude).  When she wasn’t working, she was volunteering.  In addition to being a retired Vincentian, our mom worked the annual Penny Sale and cooked for St Jude Church Suppers and Deanery Dinners for 20 years.  She participated in Princess House and Taunton activities as “Stuff the Bus,” Kid’s Day, walkathons and Christmas Parades.   Her volunteer efforts also included support and fundraisers for Doberman Rescue Unlimited.   

We invite you to join us for the Funeral Mass on Saturday, November 27th at 11:00 AM at St Jude the Apostle Parish, 249 Whittenton St, Taunton, MA 02780. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of our mom can be made to either St Vincent de Paul, 141 Washington Street, Taunton, MA 02779 or Southcoast VNA (Hospice) Attn: Community Affairs 200 Mill Road Fairhaven, MA 02719.
