Donald R. Cook of Halifax, formerly Rockland and Plymouth, passed away on December 4th, 2024, at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston after a long battle with cancer. He was 81.
Donny was the son of the late Gerald E. and Lillia B. Cook of Squantum. He attended Squantum School and North Quincy Junior and Senior High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country aboard the USS Wasp during the Bay of Pigs, he was very proud to be a U.S. Marine. He later was employed at Vulcan Tool in Rockland, and retired from there after more than 40 years. Donny enjoyed riding his bike, especially at Wompatuck Park, often joined by his longtime friend, Wayne Strohm of Weymouth. Donny will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of telling silly jokes.
Donny was the loving father of Michael J. Cook and his wife Jena of Cincinnati, Ohio, his daughter Jessica Correia and her husband Todd of Taunton. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Correia, Matthew Brimblecom, Phoebe Cook and Willow Cook. He was the brother of Florence Ragusa and her late husband Bill, Quincy, Enid Holmes, Squantum and Pamela Callaway and her husband David, Middleboro. Uncle Donny will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Per Donny’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Burial will be at a later date at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
