Frederick S. Walczak, of Taunton, MA passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Fred was born in Dighton, MA on April 23, 1938, to Theodore and Emma (Haggerty) Walczak of Taunton. He was the loving husband of Gloria J. (Rose) (Andrews) Walczak for 36 years, with whom he shared a joyous and adventurous life.
Fred was educated in the Taunton Schools and gained professional training in his trade as an Electronic Technician while proudly serving in the US Military. After a ‘Get out and see the world’ tour of duty with the US Navy, he found stable ground in the US Air Force from which he retired after a combined 21 years of service. After the military, Fred was employed by Zayre/Ames Department Stores, where he met Gloria, and worked until his retirement. His time in the Military allowed his pursuit of the Sportsman’s lifestyle of fishing, camping, hunting, and sightseeing while traversing the country. He enjoyed sharing these passions with family and friends throughout his lifetime.
With a ‘good set of hands’ and a ‘will figure it out’ wit, Fred enjoyed success at the challenges of numerous hobbies such as painting, rocketry, and computer gaming. His favorite was woodworking, and he enjoyed building beautiful, handcrafted pieces of furniture. And he always would jump at the chance to pull out the chainsaw. Always having enjoyed all music, classical, country, and others, he was proud to wear his Tie-Dye and to carry the tag of Deadhead. He travelled to numerous Grateful Dead concerts with his wife and family. He also was an avid ‘edge of the seat’ sports fan of Boston teams and NASCAR auto racing, always quick to respond to ‘Who’s winning?’. Laid-back, positive, generous with a smile, and always willing to help, he will be sorely missed.
Fred was the eldest of three children, and a loving brother of the late Marilyn (Walczak) Gagnon and the late David Walczak, both of Taunton. He was preceded in death by his daughter Pamela K. Walczak of Norton, and leaves behind Debra A. Walczak of Belgrade, MT, Frederick M. Walczak of Norton, Christopher P. Walczak and his wife Ester of Spring, TX, all from his previous marriage of 20 years to the late Clara (Rei) Demeritt. He also leaves behind Brenda M. (Andrews) Flores and her husband Mike of Taunton, Julie P. (Andrews) Maniscalco and her partner, Jim Dominguez of Biloxi, MS, David A. Andrews of Taunton, Edward A. Andrews of Sykesville, MD. He was preceded in death by John-Paul Andrews of Taunton, and leaves behind John’s wife Melinda (Fleck) Andrews of Taunton. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Sunday 26th of March, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, MA 02780.
