George E. Costa, Jr., 83, of Taunton, died peacefully at home on January 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Taunton on January 13, 1940, he was the son of the late George Costa Sr. and the late Isabelle (Nunes) Costa. He was educated at Coyle & Cassidy High School and Stonehill College. He worked for the Dighton Rehoboth Regional School system for over 30 years as a Spanish teacher and, for most of his career, a Guidance Counselor. Retired since 1991, he most recently worked as the Coordinator of Services for the Taunton chapter of the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind. George impacted so many lives of those dealing with this disability by mentoring, educating, counseling – and simply befriending – members who struggled with their loss of sight. His friendship and compassion will be greatly missed. George will be most remembered for his sharp mind, endless sense of humor, and generous heart. His love of sports, music, great food, comedy and travel will live on through his loved ones.
He is survived by his beloved wife Brenda Costa of Taunton, his sister Dolores Costa of Taunton, late sister Linda Riendeau and husband Lou of Florida, daughter Diane Costa and husband Matthew of Taunton, son David Costa and wife Eduarda of Dighton, daughter Suzanne Goss and husband David of Windham, NH, daughter Leslie Coppinger of Taunton, grandchildren Caitlin Jurnove, Nicholas and Sarah Goss, and great grandchildren Jaxson Raymond and Callie Race.
Burial services will be held privately, entrusted to Riendeau- Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA.
