George Edward O'Brien, Jr., 82, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, at Wedgemere Healthcare in Taunton.
Born in Taunton on December 2, 1943, George was the beloved son of the late George Edward O'Brien Sr. and Alice Rita (Cote) O'Brien. Although born and raised in Taunton, George spent 30 years living in California before eventually returning home to Massachusetts.
George earned his bachelor's degree and owned and operated George O'Brien Construction. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his family, and the many lasting friendships he made throughout his life.
George had a passion for sailing, especially on San Francisco Bay, and treasured the time he spent on the water. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family and friends and often reminded those close to him that "friends are a treasure."
George was the devoted husband of Cynthia A. Pelezarski-O'Brien, with whom he shared many cherished years of marriage. He was the loving father of Jennifer Tramel and her husband John and was the proud grandfather of Sophia and Cadence Tramel. George also leaves behind his two cousins who were like brothers to him, Michael O’Brien and Edward “Teddy” O’Brien. In addition to his parents, George was also predeceased by his five other close cousins he held dear, Eugene, Richard, Danny, Janet and Ginny.
He was a proud member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks, where he served on the Admissions Committee and also tended bar for many years, forming countless friendships through his involvement with the lodge.
George will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, generous spirit, and unwavering love for his family and friends.
