Gordon Clifford Seekell of Taunton, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on March 24, 2026. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Patricia A. (Donahue) Seekell with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, and their faithful cat Billy.
Born in North Dighton, Massachusetts on September 2, 1931 and raised in Taunton, Gordon was the son of the late William E. and Grace (Levy) Seekell.
He was a 1950 graduate of Taunton High School and attended classes at Stonehill College. Gordon was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy for four years in Washington D.C. and on the destroyer USS Hugh Purvis (DDE-7089).
Gordon started in the furniture business with a part-time job during high school at the former Plank and Hanson Furniture Store on Winthrop Street. Following his time in the service, he went on to work with them full time for 24 years, winning awards for his creative window displays. In 1970, he opened his own Interior Design and upholstery and drapery business. His business thrived, despite never advertising, and he continued to do the work he loved into his late eighties.
Gordon was the loving father of John Seekell and his partner MyraBeth Hoban of Pocasset, and Dorey Gallagher and her husband Paul of Scituate. Cherished grandfather and "Papa" to Daniel Seekell, Justin Jones and Frances and Grace Gallagher.
Gordon was predeceased by his brother William E. Seekell Jr. and sisters Grace Cummings, and Jacqueline Goldman
Gordon was a member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks #150 for over 70 years. He was installed as an officer and Trustee in 2023. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 611 where he served as a Chaplain. He was also a member of the American Legion. Especially in his later years, attending meetings and events with his many dear friends at these organizations brought him great joy.
Gordon enjoyed doing many things in his long life. He was crafty and creative and could fix almost anything that was broken (usually with a couple of angle irons).
In his younger years he was an avid golfer and bowler. He was known for his great singing voice and sang in clubs and with bands over the years. Making people laugh or smile with his many jokes was his special way of making friends. In his nineties he started performing stand-up comedy for various charity events. But most of all he was known for being a friend to everyone he met. He possessed the rare gift of seeing the good in others and will be remembered for this quality most of all.
"Advice I would share: Just be friendly and nice to people and they will be friendly and nice back. So far it's worked."
-Gordon Seekell 3/19/2026
