Guerda Lamadieu

Guerda Lamadieu, 64, of Taunton, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 31, 2026, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. Born on November 23, 1961, in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, she was the beloved daughter of Fombrun Lamadieu, affectionately known as “Pè Mòy,” and Marie Joseph-Lamadieu, affectionately known as “Didi.”

A proud Haitian woman, Guerda carried her culture, faith, and love of family with her throughout her life. No matter where life took her, Haiti remained close to her heart. She treasured her Haitian heritage and believed deeply in keeping family, friends, and community connected.

Guerda was the beloved wife of the late Jean Mario Lafontant. She was a devoted mother to her only son, Eric Lafontant, and a loving mother-in-law to his wife, Rebecca. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Angelica Antoine Lafontant, Ethan Lafontant, Imani Vera Lafontant, and Enzo Lafontant. Her grandchildren were among the greatest joys and blessings of her life.

Family was at the center of everything Guerda did. She loved bringing relatives and friends together and celebrating birthdays, holidays, and family milestones. She loved to bake, dance, travel, laugh, and enjoy life surrounded by the people she loved. She had a special way of keeping everyone connected and making each person feel welcomed and cared for.

Guerda’s laughter was unforgettable. Her smile, joyful personality, and beautiful laugh could brighten an entire room. She loved life and lived it fully. Her favorite colors—pink, sky blue, yellow, and silver—reflected the warmth, happiness, and light she brought wherever she went.

A devoted nurse by profession, Guerda dedicated her life to caring for others with compassion, patience, dignity, and kindness. Nursing was more than her profession; caring for others was part of who she was. Nothing was ever too much when someone needed Guerda’s help. She was generous, understanding, a wonderful listener, and someone family and friends knew they could always count on.

Above all, Guerda was a woman of extraordinary faith in God. She was a faithful parishioner of Saint Anthony Parish, a member of the Secular Carmelite Community, and a beloved pillar of the Haitian community. Prayer was at the center of her life. Her devotion was so deep that she would sometimes fast for days while praying to God for her family, friends, and others who needed healing, protection, guidance, or mercy.

Guerda did not simply speak about her faith—she lived it. She demonstrated her love for God through compassion, generosity, service, prayer, and the way she cared for others.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Eric Lafontant and his wife, Rebecca; her cherished grandchildren, Angelica Antoine Lafontant, Ethan Lafontant, Imani Vera Lafontant, and Enzo Lafontant; her brothers and sisters; extended family; dear friends; her Saint Anthony Parish family; the Secular Carmelite Community; the Haitian community; fellow nurses and colleagues; and the countless people whose lives she touched.

Guerda left this world far too soon, leaving an emptiness that words cannot fully describe. Yet the love she gave so freely remains with us.

We will remember her prayers, her generosity, her dancing and baking, her love of traveling and celebrating life, and the beautiful way she brought family and friends together. Most of all, we will remember her unforgettable laugh that could light up a room.

Guerda Lamadieu lived a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, compassion, service, and Haitian pride. Her legacy will continue through her family and through every person who was blessed to know and love her.

Guerda, nou renmen ou anpil. Ou kite nou twò bonè, men lanmou ou, lafwa ou, souri ou, ak souvni ou ap toujou rete nan kè nou. Jiskaske nou rankontre ankò.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 13th, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm in the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA 02780.  A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00am on Friday, August 14th at St. Anthony Church, 126 School St., Taunton, MA 02780. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 475 E. Britannia St., Taunton, MA 02780.
