James “Jim” Silvia, 82, loving husband of Irene (Dubois) Silvia, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 15, 2023, with his family by his side.
Jim was a lifelong resident of Taunton and the son of Manuel and Mary (Gouveia) Silvia. Jim served as a cook in the Army National Guard and retired from the Foxboro Company after 39 years. He then worked as a custodian for St. Jude the Apostle Parish (formerly St. Jacques) until retiring for health reasons. Jim was a Eucharistic Minister for both his parish and Morton Hospital, he was active in all parish functions and received the Marian Medal for his service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past president of St. Vincent de Paul chapter at St. Jude, as well as a volunteer for many years at their food pantry. Jim loved watching sports, and was an umpire for little league, minor league and high school baseball for many years. He enjoyed golfing, camping at Bourne Scenic Park and playing cards with family and friends. He was a loving husband, father and friend, and will be sorely missed by all.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Irene Silvia and his children James Jr. and his wife Suzanne, daughter Karen Letendre and her fiancé Steve Wilkins, his granddaughters Jamie and Bethany Letendre, his brother David Silvia and his sisters Louise Crowninshield, Evelyn Demers and Theresa Tibbetts, all of Taunton. Jim was also the brother of the late Daniel Silvia, Raymond Silvia, Gloria Martin and Margaret Menice.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday December 28th from 4:00-7:00pm in the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton Ma. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 29th at 10:00am in St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 249 Whittenton St. Taunton Ma followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
