Javier "Javi" Fernandez

Javier “Javi” Fernandez, 55, passed away on January 7, 2026 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA. He was born on April 22, 1970, in Manatí, Puerto Rico. He treasured the memories of his childhood in the countryside, spending time in nature and among his community, and caring for chickens and other animals.

Javier lived a full life, bringing love, humor, and kindness to those around him. His bright smile and ready laugh lit up each room he was in. His presence was warm, welcoming, and unforgettable in a way that made people feel seen, celebrated, and at home. He was a generous and compassionate spirit who will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

He found joy in the simple and beautiful moments: long walks by the water, good wine, and most of all, celebrating his friends and family. Whether gathered around a table, sharing stories and laughter, or robustly enjoying the world around him, he lived with intention and heart.

He is survived by his beloved husband, Sebastiao Ferreira; his two cherished cats, Lipi and Pepito; his sister, Myrna Inés Mercado Fernandez, niece, Myrnaliz Mercado Fernandez, and nephew, Luis Efrén Mercado Fernandez, of Manatí, Puerto Rico; and his brother, Efrén Manuel Fernandez, nephew, Efrén Manuel Fernandez, Junior, and sister-in-law, Lupita Fernandez, of Vineland, New Jersey, all of whom will carry his memory forward with love. He will enter into rest alongside his parents, Marta Laureano and Efraín Fernandez.

A viewing and short service will be held at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, MA on Friday, January 16, 2025, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
