Jeanne M. (Thiboutot) Gaouette, 95, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025 in Jay, Maine. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman T. Gaouette.
Jeanne was born in Sainte-Perpetue, L’Islet, Quebec, Canada on August 18,1929 to Joseph and Marie-Louise (Ouellet) Thiboutot. She was one of twelve children all of whom predeceased her except the youngest, Sr. Rachel Thiboutot, Sisters of Charity of Quebec, Canada. After graduating high school, Jeanne was employed as head bank teller at the Canadian National Bank in Ste-Anne-de-la Pocatiere, Quebec, Canada. She married Norman in Ste-Anne-de-laPocatiere on September 10, 1955. Together they raised their family in Taunton. In 1964, Jeanne attained naturalization as a United States Citizen.
Jeanne enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, and playing piano. She was a loving, kind, and devoted wife, mother, and friend. A life-long communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, Jeanne was a lectern, choir member, and volunteer at the parish rectory. In the late 80’s, Jeanne was appointed by the City of Taunton, Board of Mayor and Council as Election Poll Inspector of Precinct A, Ward 5 (Hopewell School). She maintained that appointment for thirty years. Additionally, Jeanne sold Avon products for many years earning recognition as a top saleswoman and President’s Club member.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Louise Hall (Roger) of Wilton, Maine, Paul Gaouette (Jean) of Taunton, Denise Matteson (Francis) of Jay, Maine, grandchildren, Scott Matteson (Mary), Nicole Allen (Andrew), Michelle Gaouette, great grandchildren, Nolan and Hally Matteson, Amelia, Eleanor, and Adaline Allen, sister-in-law Jeannette Thiboutot of Drummondville, Quebec, Canada and many special and loved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, siblings, and husband, Jeanne was predeceased by her son, Richard.
Visitation will be held at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St., Taunton, Ma on Tuesday February 25, 2025 from 4:00-7:00pm. Funeral proceedings will begin in the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home 467 Bay St. Taunton Ma on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 9:00am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 249 Whittenton St., Taunton. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 475 E Britannia St., Taunton.
