Joan B. (Madigan) Johnston

Joan Beatrice Johnston, age 89,  died at home after a long illness on December 30, 2023.   

Born February 13, 1934 in Boston, MA to Timothy J. and Helen (Gibbons) Madigan. She was married to Merle R. Johnston for over 71 years until his death in 2023. They settled in East Taunton and raised 3 children. Joan enjoyed baking, reading, and spending time with her family. Her love of children led her to volunteer with the Fresh Air Fund. For many years Joan hosted a child each summer, provided them with new experiences and helped make lifetime memories.   

Joan is survived by her children: Joanne and partner Evanthea of Dracut MA, Craig and wife Patricia of Plympton MA, Carolyne and husband Robert of Germany. Loving grandmother to her grandson Matthew. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Merle Jr., and siblings Frederick Merritt and Barbara Halloran. She also leaves behind many loving friends and extended family. 

Services will be private.
