John Laureat Berube, of Taunton, died Monday, April 20, 2026, at Morton Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, following an extended period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of the late Madelyn (Lougee). John was born 81 years ago in Fall River, the son of the late Laureat Berube and the late Marie P (Wry) Berube-Cataloni. John was raised and educated in Taunton and has been a lifelong resident.
Before his retirement, he valued his 41 years as a machinist at Eastern Machine and Design in Hanson. John would always say he never worked a day in his life because he enjoyed the challenges the occupation presented. John practiced his faith quietly and unobtrusively at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Vaillancourt Street in Taunton. He was always inconspicuously there to lend a helping hand, never seeking recognition for his good deeds. He volunteered countless hours to make others’ lives easier. John greatly loved his family and appreciated and enjoyed the simple things in life. Working in his yard, cutting wood, and caring for animals brought satisfaction to his being. His home was the hub of activity for countless children, animals, and adventures. He enjoyed everything aquatic, including boating, scuba diving, clamming, and lobstering. He also served as a rescue diver for the Taunton Police during the 1960s and early 1970s.
John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, sibling, and friend. He was the father of 8 children: Laurie Muncy of Taunton, John Berube of Middletown, RI, Sandra Brown of San Antonio, Texas, David Lougee of Raynham, Lisa Paul of Taunton, Shawn Lougee of Taunton, Patrick Lougee of Warren, and the late Chad Lougee of New York, and their respective spouses. John was the brother of Mary Walsh of Assonet, Joan Shahdan of Assonet, Lynn Rose of North Attleboro, and the late Paul Berube of Taunton.
Friends and family are invited to attend a service of remembrance from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St., Taunton, MA.
