John D. Newcomb

John D. Newcomb, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2025. He was the longtime significant other to Elaine E. (Goodreau) Crone for 27 wonderful years. Born and raised in Middleboro on July 17, 1943, to the late Bertha (Chapman) and Leon Newcomb.

A proud Navy Veteran, John honorably served aboard submarines from 1962 to 1965, exemplifying courage and commitment. His love of boating, camping, and loyalty to the New England Patriots—as a season ticket holder for many years—were only a few of his passions. John cherished his role as Foreman at Burns Sand and Gravel, where he worked for over two decades, fostering dedication among his colleagues.

John was an avid traveler who explored the entire country and ventured abroad, including memorable trips to Northern Europe and, just last summer, to Africa. He will be remembered for his warm smile, positive outlook, and generous spirit that touched everyone he met. His kindness and sense of humor brought joy to his family and friends, and his unwavering support meant the world to those who knew him.

In addition to his significant other Elaine, John is survived by his son John D. Newcomb Jr. and wife Vicki of Wareham; daughter Rebecca Field and husband Brett of Maine; stepson David Elmes of Middleboro; sister Janice Strojny and husband William of Middleboro; adored grandchildren Joshua Newcomb, Davario Elmes, Ashley Jones and husband Mike, and Shawna Vincent and husband Matthew; and cherished great-grandchildren Chloe and Kaylee. John was also the brother of the late Nancy Joy.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and dedication that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville, MA, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Nemasket Hill Cemetery, 515 Plymouth St., Middleboro, MA. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
