John E. Stigh Jr., age 73, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, in Raynham, MA, after a long period of failing health. He was the loving fiancé of Dianne T. Alexio.
Born in Taunton, MA on February 3, 1951, to the late Doris (Girard) and John Stigh Sr.. A 1969 Graduate of Monsignor James Coyle High School. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, he served two tours in the U.S. Army Reserves as a heavy equipment operator. Before leaving active duty, John was a recipient of the National Defense Ribbon, 2 Unit Citations, the Expert Sharpshooter’s Badge and was a candidate for the Good Conduct Medal. John had received three honorable discharges.
John was a Taunton Firefighter for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Fire Inspector in the Fire Inspection Bureau. He lived his lifelong dream of serving at his neighborhood Bay St. Fire Station for 16 years, on Engine #4 and Ladder Co #2. He also worked in other stations as a driver, acting Lt., dispatch and as Chief Driver. John loved “the station life” but most of all enjoyed his family times and get-togethers.
An avid softball player over a span of 23 years. John played in all 3 Taunton Leagues and for the Taunton Elks & the Taunton Fire Department. John’s favorite part was meeting new friends and times together, his position he loved the most was playing left-field or pitching. He also enjoyed fishing in the Canal and anywhere on Cape Cod.
Survived by his daughters Jessica Lee Enersen Stigh and Danielle Marie Enersen Stigh, his beloved grandchildren Sage Marie Stigh, Willow Mae Stigh and Dakota Gilio, John is also survived by his ex-wife Donna (Morin) Stigh and was also the brother of the late Carol Ann Enersen Stigh.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA from 4:00-7:00pm. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
