John G. Tierney, of Taunton, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was the loving husband of Edna A. (Ancho) Tierney. He was born 71 years ago in Taunton, son of the late John J. and Eloise (Lagace) Tierney. He was a graduate of Taunton High School and later attended Bridgewater State for his Bachelors and continued his education at Bowling Green in Ohio for his Masters Degree. John was drafted into the Army, serving in Germany during the Vietnam Era. He went on to finish his education and enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country for over 15 years. While stationed in the Navy, he was a Journalist, TV News Anchor and later a TV Producer for the Navy. John was a dedicated and proud Veteran. He became a Professor and over the course of his 30 years of teaching, he impacted the lives of thousands of students. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a dedicated member of Holy Family church, in Taunton, and was also very active in the political community.
In John's spare time he had a passion for reading and spending time tinkering in his backyard. He loved hiking. John hiked Mt. Fuji in Japan; he always loved to travel. Most of all, he cherished the time he spent with his granddaughter. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, John will be forever remembered by his daughter; Jacqueline Tierney, brother; Mike Tierney and wife Drenda, sister; Lynne Snyder and husband Jim, granddaughter; Alexis Irwin and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother; the late Wayne Tierney.
Visiting Hours will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Sunday, May 9th from 3:00PM - 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be held for family and close friends on Monday, May 10th at Holy Family Church in Taunton followed by A Burial with Military Honors at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, 175 Staples Street, East Taunton MA 02718.
