Joseph David (Mendes) Mendes

Joseph D. Mendes passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday September 21, 2022, after a long battle with leukemia. He was the beloved husband of Marguerite (Courcy) Mendes. Joe was born in Taunton on July 25,1954 to Joseph and M. Theresa (Demers) Mendes.

Joe attended Taunton High School and graduated the year of 1972. He worked for the Taunton State Hospital as a Maintenance Foreman for many years.

Joe loved the outdoors. Hunting, fishing and camping were just some of his favorite things to do. He was a great friend and would help anyone when he could. Joe fought a long and courageous battle with leukemia and yet he never complained. Thanks to his sister Ann, who donated her stem cells to Joe, her bravery added 20 more years to his life. The recent loss of his sister Ann means that he won’t be alone in the afterlife.

In addition to his loving wife Marguerite of 46 years, Joseph will be deeply missed by his son Jason Mendes, daughter Katherine Burgess, three beloved grandchildren Brian, Kyla and Brady Burgess and their father Brian Burgess, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of Linda Mendes, Pamela Johnson and her husband Chris and the late Ann Silvia and her husband Michael

A Funeral Mass will be held on October 1, 2022 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish located at 249 Whittenton St, Taunton, Ma, at 11:15am. All family and friends are respectfully invited to attend. For directions or to leave Joe’s family an online condolence, please visit www.r-mfh.com
