Joseph P. Silvia Jr., of Taunton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born on May 23, 1935, in Taunton, Massachusetts, the son of the late Joseph Silvia and Arlene (Schondek) Silvia.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Cote) Silvia, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted father to Steven Silvia and his spouse Doreen, David Silvia and his spouse Kim, Jennifer (Silvia) McManus and her spouse Stephen, and Gayle (Silvia) Soderquist and her spouse Eric. He was a proud and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he attended Naval Flight School to train to become a Marine pilot. He lived by the motto, “Once a Marine, always a Marine,” and his commitment to service remained a source of pride throughout his life.
He dedicated his professional career to the United States Postal Service, where he served as Postmaster in North Attleboro and Taunton, Massachusetts. He was respected for his leadership, strong work ethic, and dedication to his community.
Joseph will be remembered for his love of family, steady presence, and the kindness he showed to everyone around him. He enjoyed reading, playing golf, and especially spending time at family celebrations. He had a gift for conversation and genuinely enjoyed talking with everyone he met. Above all, he took great pride in his family and cherished the memories they created together.
He was also a lifelong member of the Taunton Elks, where he valued the friendships and sense of community he found there.
His life was a testament to dedication, love, and family, and his legacy will live on through all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St., Taunton, Massachusetts. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne, Massachusetts.
