Madhusudan Jhaveri was born on January 21, 1936 in Bahadarpur, India. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at Sardar Patel College in India. This was followed by a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University and a PhD in Structural Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Madhubhai had a very long and productive career, which included working on the design of the Newark Airport and the World Trade Center. He was also an engineering professor at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, where he founded the Center for Indic Studies and provided invaluable support to countless Indian students.
Madhubhai served as the president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) in America and started the first VHP Summer Camp Program. Madhubhai had varied interests in Indian culture and traditions, including music, poetry, and both Hindi and Sanskrit literature. He published poetry and linguistics books that won numerous awards, including the Hindi Ratna Award from the International Hindi Committee. More recently, he was awarded the Lifetime Contribution Award from VHP and was recognized by the Governor of Rhode Island during India’s Independence Day.
Madhubhai is survived by his wife, Pallavi; sister, Hema; two daughters, Mona and Shruti; son-in-law, Janak; and two granddaughters, Deeya and Vinaya.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA from 9:00am-11:00am.
