Marie Fitzpatrick, of Taunton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family after a short battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Taunton, Marie lived a life centered around faith, family, kindness, and devotion to those she loved most.
Born in Taunton on May 24, 1945, she was the beloved daughter of the late Andrew and Shirley (Moore) Nichols. Marie was raised and educated in Taunton, Fort Lauderdale and Phoenix. She remained deeply connected to the Taunton community throughout her life.
Marie was the cherished wife of Paul J. Fitzpatrick, with whom she shared 63 loving years of marriage after they were united on June 30, 1962. Together they built a beautiful family and home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering love.
Marie was a devoted mother and leaves behind her loving children: Paul J. Fitzpatrick Jr. and wife Pamela of Oxford, Karen T. Riendeau and husband Rick of Taunton, Michael J. Fitzpatrick and wife Darlene of Somerset, and Christine M. Tardiff and husband Garett of Taunton. She was also the proud and loving grandmother of Emily Vivlamore, Elizabeth Latournes, Breanne Pimentel, Patrick Riendeau, Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick, Victoria Ioannidis, Benjamin Fitzpatrick, Joseph Fitzpatrick, Joey Fitzpatrick, Brendon Fitzpatrick, Alexandra Gallagher, Julia Rodier, and Lauren VanRude. Marie is also survived by her devoted nephew, Reverend James Fitzpatrick of Fall River along with her many nieces, nephews and friends. Marie was predeceased by her beloved sister Norma Cote, her grandmother Marian "Ma" Moore, her great-grandmother Mary "Nana" Neville, paternal grandparents James and Eva Nichols, and her mother and father-in-law Lillian and William Fitzpatrick whom we know were waiting to welcome her in heaven.
Marie was further blessed with 13 great-grandchildren: Aubrey Souza, Sophia Vivlamore, Jaxson Vivlamore, Wren Pimentel, Ashton White, Casey Ioannidis, Jane Latournes, Mason VanRude, Rhett Riendeau, Charli VanRude, Eleanor Fitzpatrick, Kennedy Ioannidis, and Theodore Latournes, all of whom brought immense joy and pride to her life.
Marie worked for many years as a medical secretary and retired from Lakeville Family Medicine in January of 2025. She was known for her caring nature, and compassion for helping others, which was a testament to her dedication and work ethic. However, she found her greatest joy in helping raise many of her grandchildren, creating treasured memories through everyday moments filled with love, laughter, guidance and unwavering support. Marie often said those years spent caring for her family were among the happiest and most fulfilling of her life.
Faith was a cornerstone of Marie’s life. She was a longtime parishioner of the former Immaculate Conception Parish and later St. Jude the Apostle Parish, where her devotion and strong Catholic faith remained an important part of who she was throughout her life.
Marie will be remembered for her strength, nurturing spirit, and the unconditional love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Marie treasured the simple moments spent with her family, especially preparing for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, teaching and passing down her many dessert recipes, countless birthday celebrations (or any reason to have cake). Marie also enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing cards, games, and watching her favorite game shows. She was an avid fan of the Celtics and loved watching and talking about the games with anyone. Marie enjoyed vacationing in Aruba for many years with her husband and sister and one special year with her daughters. She also shared a sacred bond with her precious Paris, whose companionship brought her comfort and happiness for over 17 years.
Her family will remember her for her unconditional love, strength, generosity, and the steady guidance she provided throughout their lives. Marie’s legacy lives on in the family she adored so deeply and in the many lives she touched with her kindness. Marie was the matriarch of her family, our loudest cheerleader, fiercest protector and biggest fan, and her loss will be felt deeply but she gave us all so many everyday memories to fill a lifetime and for that we are truly blessed.
Marie will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always. "Let's eat cake.”
