76 Years Old

Mary (Westfall) Kirkland, age 76 of Taunton and Middleboro, MA passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024 at the Hannah B.G. Shaw Home after a period of declining health surrounded by her loving family and friends.  Proudly born and raised in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Westfall and Winifred C. (Kelly) Westfall.

Mary graduated Clairmont College with a degree in Administration. Upon graduating she moved to Taunton, MA where she was employed as an Administrator in the insurance industry for over 40 years and was known to possess the most immaculate, beautiful penmanship.  She was a member of the Taunton Polish club and enjoyed many great times there with family and friends.  She was a generous supporter of many charities and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Raynham. 

Mary was soft spoken and kind hearted but also a “tough cookie” when needed.  She was a great friend and support system to all who knew her.  She loved music by her favorite artists which included Celtic music, Johnny Mathis, Etta James, the Boston Pops, 50s music and George Michael. She enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod, the Irish Village, New York, Ireland, Hawaii and going on cruises. She enjoyed watching movies, reading, sewing, cooking and hosting meals at home with family and friends.  She loved all animals but her birds and her cat Sammi held a special place in her heart. 

Mary will be remembered as the most selfless, caring, generous person who was always there for everyone.  She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all who were blessed to have had her in their lives.

She was the cherished and devoted wife of the love of her life, the late Stephen M. Kirkland for over 36 years, who brought her the most happiness in life. They were the true definition of soulmates to all who knew them.  

She is survived by her stepson Robert Kirkland and his wife Lisa Kirkland of Taunton; Stephen Kirkland of Fall River and Melissa Kirkland of Westport; brother John Westfall of Ocala, Florida; sister in law Patricia Peterson and husband Gerald of Taunton MA, Linda Williams and her husband Robert of Florida, the late Deborah Hames of Tennessee and brother in law Michael Kirkland of Tennessee and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Her best friends Deborah Landry of Fall River and Mark Borgal of Taunton whose love and support was unwavering and unconditional.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, MA.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home followed by a burial at St. Joseph Cemetery (Our Lady of the Rosary Section) 475 E. Britannia Street, Taunton, MA.
