Michael Leonard Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Michael F. Leonard of Dighton, formerly of Raynham and Taunton, who left us on April 8, 2026, at the age of 70. Michael was cherished by all who knew him, and his warmth, generosity, and steadfast spirit will be deeply missed.

Born in Taunton on June 3, 1955, Michael was the beloved son of the late Thomas J. Leonard and Theresa R. (DeChamplain) Leonard. He grew up in Taunton, filled with pride as a graduate of Taunton High School’s Class of 1973. Michael pursued his love of nature and agriculture at the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, University of Massachusetts Amherst, graduating in 1976—a testament to his dedication and work ethic.

Michael began his professional journey as a park ranger at Myles Standish State Forest and in Connecticut, where his appreciation for the outdoors blossomed. He went on to build a distinguished career as a truck driver with Teamsters Local 25, proudly serving as a liquor distributor until his retirement in 2009. Michael was respected and admired by colleagues for his unwavering commitment and congenial nature. In 2014, he fulfilled his lifelong dream by purchasing a cottage on the river in Dighton with his wife. This new home allowed him to step outside and fish for stripers, embracing the waterfront lifestyle he had always desired.

An avid outdoorsman, Michael found his greatest joy amidst nature’s beauty. He reveled in fishing for stripers and trout, hunting deer and pheasants with his hunting dog Champ, and embracing every opportunity to be outside. Moments of quiet contentment were spent playing cribbage and the card game 45 with friends and family, creating memories filled with laughter and love. His passion for antiques led him to many yard and estate sales, always searching for treasures—each a story to be cherished.

Above all, Michael treasured time spent with his loved ones. He will be remembered for his deep love of the outdoors, his unshakable work ethic, and his easygoing personality that made those around him feel comforted and valued. His enduring kindness and light will forever live in the hearts of his family and friends.

Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Beth A. (Ferris) Leonard of Dighton; his loving children, Arielle Louissaint and her husband Vladimir, and Michael Leonard and his girlfriend Katie Sullivan. He was a proud and doting papa to Vivienne Louissaint and Savannah Louissaint, who brought him immeasurable joy.

He also leaves behind his brothers, Thomas J. Leonard and his wife Bette, and Gregory C. Leonard and his wife Judith. Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel J. Leonard. He is further survived by his mother-in-law June Bearse of North Chester, ME, his sister-in-law Wendy York and her husband Jay also of ME, and his sister-in-law Robin Leonard, along with several nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.

Michael’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will remain with us always. May he rest in peace, wrapped in the eternal embrace of nature he so dearly loved.
