Myer Bornstein Obituary

Dr. Myer S. Bornstein of Taunton, MA, passed at the age of 81 on June 6, 2020, succumbing to complications from Covid-19. Born on September 7, 1938, in Boston Massachusetts, Myer is predeceased in death by his parents Abram and Celia Bornstein, and his sister Claire Stairs. He is survived by: his two former wives (nee Judith Green and Janet Gardner; five children and their wives, Aaron and Diem Bornstein, Gary and Eser Bornstein, Barry Bornstein, Michael Gardner Bornstein, Paul and Michelle Cairol-Bornstein; his three grandchildren Kyle, Ira, and Elia; great-granddaughter Abigail; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dr. Bornstein served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war and obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After graduating from the Northeastern and University of Vermont in 1965 with a degree in medicine, Dr. Bornstein went on to a distinguished career in obstetrics and gynecology, working at Charlton and Truesdale Memorial Hospitals in Fall River, MA, New London Hospital in New London, N.H., and finishing as Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medical Director at Morton Hospital in Taunton, MA. Additionally, he served as Medical Director for Seminole Point Rehabilitation Center in Sunapee, N.H. and was a former President of the Massachusetts Medical Society. In his personal life, Dr. Bornstein enjoyed a variety of interests: stamp collecting, hunting, training, and showing dogs, coaching youth hockey, skiing, gardening, horseback riding, reading, Naturalist for mass Audubon society and was an award-winning photographer.

While Dr. Bornstein will surely be missed by his friends, family, former colleagues and patients, the family will be holding a closed service. Dr. Bornstein will be laid to rest at Bourne National Cemetery with full Military Honors. (With respect to his avid interest in nature and photography, donations can be made in his name to Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, Mass Audubon, 1280 Horseneck Rd. Westport, MA 02790, National Audubon Society and National Diabetes Association.)
