It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Norman Amaral on April 4, 2023. He was 93 years old. Husband of Frances Amaral and the late Janet Amaral.
Born in Taunton to the late Joseph and Loretta Amaral and educated in Taunton Schools. Mr. Amaral served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He served on the Taunton Police Department for 29 years, which he was most proud. In that time, he made sergeant, became a detective, and started the Police Department Dive Team for rescue operations. Norman trained and prepared the men to become certified scuba divers. After his retirement, he became a councilman for the city of Taunton and was a communicant of St. Jude The Apostle Parish in Taunton.
Norman is survived by his children Lynn Prado and her husband Joseph of Florida, Brian Amaral and his wife Deborah of South Carolina, Sheila Amaral of Wareham, MA. and Alan Amaral and his wife Mary of Middleboro, MA. He is also survived by his step children Ralph Dryer and his wife Tracy of Nebraska and Cheryl Woods of Taunton, MA. and was step father to the late Blanche White. He was the proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Shirley Dansereau and was brother to the late former Mayor Joseph L. Amaral, and the late Diane Borges. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 4:00- 7:00 pm at Riendeau- Mulvey Funeral Home 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Taunton, MA. Followed by a burial at St. Joseph Cemetery 475 E. Britannia St. Taunton, MA.
