Richard L. Chickering

Richard L. Chickering, of West Wareham, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

Born in Raynham on March 27, 1941, he was the son of the late Leonard M. Chickering and Anita T. (Cote) Chickering. Richard was the beloved husband of Barbara L. (Richardson) Chickering, with whom he shared many devoted years of marriage.

A self-employed mechanic throughout his life, Richard was known as “Mr. Fix-It” for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything. He began his career at Chickering Sunnyside Service Station in Raynham before opening Chickering Trucking in Middleboro with his brothers. One of his family's favorite memories was his tradition of giving batteries and flashlights as Christmas gifts—a simple gesture that perfectly reflected his practical nature and generous heart.

Richard leaves behind his loving wife, Barbara L. (Richardson) Chickering; his son, Richard L. Chickering; his daughter, Nancy Chickering-Richmond and her husband, Dan; his brother, Edward Chickering and his wife, Brenda; his sister, Louise Wilkins; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his brothers, Alan Chickering and David Chickering.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay St. Taunton, MA. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:00 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Pleasant Street Cemetery, Raynham, MA.
