Steven Shaw Obituary

Steven Wayne Shaw was born to Roy Elmer Shaw and Lucy Isabel (Stone) Shaw in Middleboro, MA on August 30, 1952. Steve passed into eternal rest unexpectedly at Morton Hospital on New Year's Day at the age of 69.

He leaves his dearest friend and companion Karen Heap and her family. He leaves his siblings Mary L. Bell of Carver, MA, Linda McMullen (Thomas) of Knoxville, PA, James Shaw of Covington, LA, Gerald Shaw of New Bedford, MA, and Dorothy Martin of Fall River, MA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Shaw.

Steve was a gifted musician, playing both the tuba and the string bass. He was the student of Harvey Phillips and John Coffey, both highly respected brass teachers. Steve played in the Boston Youth Symphony starting in the eighth grade through high school. As a senior he was selected to represent the United States in the World Youth Symphony. He performed with the Brockton Youth Stage Band, Bridgewater State Jazz Band, Brockton Cosmo-Legion Band, Marion Town Band, Plymouth “Bud” Band, Dixie Diehards Jazz Band, Bridgewater Antiphonal Brass, Southeastern Philharmonic, United Brass Quintet, Pesante Brass, Tri-County Band, Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, and the South Shore Concert Band with whom he recorded about 60 circus music albums. Steve was also a very proficient square dancer and member of the Silver City Twirlers square dance club for many years. Music was an integral part of his life, whether listening, playing, or dancing to it.

An additional passion in Steve's life was fixing and selling. He started with a neighbor's pickup truck, then moved to fixing houses, then to being the owner of a local appliance repair business. Most of his adult life "Steve's Appliances” in Taunton is where he hung his hat.
