Thomas "Tommy" Duemmling Obituary

Thomas J. Duemmling, 70, of Norton, passed away on September 16, 2026, following a short illness.

To his family, he was Tommy. To friends, neighbors, and coworkers, he was Tom or Thomas. Born in Boston on November 24, 1955, and raised in Dedham and Foxboro, he made his home in Norton more than 45 years ago with his family: his sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Michael Schrems, and their children, Melanie, Mike, and Jillian.

Tommy graduated from Foxborough High School in 1973 and worked as a teenager at Lawton's Family Farm in Foxboro. Shortly after graduation, he began what would become a more than 40-year career with the Foxboro Company, later Schneider Electric, retiring after decades of service. Retirement didn't last long though — he went on to work at CPS Technologies Corp. in Norton, where he made many good friends and stayed until he became ill in July.

Tommy loved people and the easy pleasure of a good conversation. He chatted with neighbors on his frequent walks, and his infectious laugh made him easy to know and hard to forget.

An avid golfer in his younger years, Tommy played two or three rounds most weekends at Stone-E-Lee in Attleboro — no cart, rain or shine. He kept up with the big tournaments on television long after his own days on the course slowed, and he was a devoted Patriots and Celtics fan.

In later years, Tommy developed an unexpected passion for the birds around his Norton home. What began with feeding them — and regular trips with Joanne to Ferestien Feed & Farm Supply for bird food — grew into something more. He checked the bluebird house for eggs, watched over the babies, kept predators at bay, and became an enthusiastic birdwatcher who never let the feeders run empty.

Tommy's life centered on his family, especially his nieces and nephew. They celebrated every birthday and holiday together, and Tommy showed up for the big moments and the small ones alike — helping with math homework, attending baseball tournaments, cheering at basketball games, untangling Christmas lights, and simply being there.

He was in good health right up until he wasn't. He never complained and lived a simple, humble life — homemade chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate-covered cherries, and a big glass of cold milk with nearly every meal. He also loved the lottery and scratch tickets, always game to try his luck.

Tommy leaves behind a family and many friends who will miss his steady presence, his generosity, his humor, and above all his laugh. He may have lived a simple life, but it was full — work, friendship, family, small pleasures, and more than 45 years surrounded by the people he loved. And we were lucky to have him.

In lieu of flowers, buy yourself a scratch ticket or two and see if his luck rubs off.
