Edward Vincent Moran Jr.

On Tuesday, September 14, 2021, Edward V. Moran Jr. passed away after a short illness. He was predeceased by his wife Dianne (Roberts) Moran. Son of the  late Edward Moran Sr. and the late Cecile (Pidgeon) Moran, Edward is survived by his sister Cecile, and her husband, Ron Raposa, as well as a cousin, Joyce Noseworthy. 

Ed belonged to the American Legion for many years and was a Seaman in the U.S. Navy and served active duty from June 2, 1965 until May 23, 1967 aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga.

An accomplished musician, Ed started his career at age 17, on the keyboards, playing around the New Bedford and Cape Cod area.  Many remember him playing the Hammond organ at the roller- skating rink at Lincoln Park.  At age 19, he played organ on the Boston night club scene. Eventually tiring of Boston, he set his sights on New York City to try and make a name for himself. He started in the Bronx and worked his way all over New York City.  He had a recording made of himself, playing his trademark B3 Hammond organ with Leslie speaker which he used to promote himself. This led him to meet Mr. Guy Lombardo at one of the music venues. Mr. Lombardo liked what he heard from Ed, and subsequently, invited  him to audition to play in his orchestra. It was an exciting time for Ed Moran.

In 1973, Ed and Dianne met and were married in 1977 and they continued to reside in Florida while Ed earned his living playing organ at various restaurants and clubs.  When the entertainment industry in the Florida area collapsed in the 1980’s, Ed lost his job and the couple came back to live in New Bedford.  Although Ed spent many years on the road playing various venues throughout the country, Ed came back to his roots playing  locally at Rosie’s, The Seaport, Candleworks, and Antone’s.  In more recent times, he was the organist for Sunday church services at Community Baptist Church in Marion, Massachusetts. 

Ed was also an avid N-scale model railroader and loved demonstrating his home made layouts at area model train shows.

The family would like to especially thank  Lori Cabral & Staff from New Bedford Hospice & Pallative Care, Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association, Southcoast Health,  and  Pace for all that they did to comfort Edward during his final days.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 391 Onset Ave, East Wareham MA 02538 on Thursday September 30th at 11:00a.m.  Following the Service, burial with Military Honors will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave, Bourne, Massachusetts at 12:45p.m. Cremation services provided by Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, Taunton MA.
