Robert “Woody” J. Woods Sr, 81, of Taunton passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2021. Robert was the son of the late John S. and Mary R. (White) Woods. Husband to the late Sheryl Woods. Robert was the head custodian for the Taunton Public Schools for over 30 years until his retirement. All the students over the years would always remember him as Mr. Woods, even long after they graduated. He will be remembered as Woody with the mustache. Woody was a Proud member of the Taunton Elks. Most recently he became a 60 year Honorary Lifetime Member. Having lived on Railroad Ave for more than 70 years, Woody was lovingly known as “The Mayor of Railroad Ave”. In his spare time, Woody enjoyed traveling with his wife and camping. He also cherished the time he spent boating with his family.
He is survived by his daughter; Cindy L. Souza and partner Joseph Zinni Jr. of Assonet, son; Robert Woods Jr. and wife Joan of North Dighton, grandchildren; Jon Souza Jr., Ashley Woods and Emma Zinni, one great-grandchild Anieceya Souza. In addition to Roberts parents and late wife, he was predeceased by his step-son the late Christopher Frates, and grandchild the late April Woods.
Woody use to joke with his daughter repeating this quote; “Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming…”WOO HOO, What a Ride!” He definitely did that.
He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrews the Apostle Parish, 19 Kilmer Ave, Taunton, MA on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00AM. Burial will be private for family.
